12°C, rain, with flashing clouds and growling skies
I’m in love:
I fell in love with this little painted sketch in the last week. Workmates witnessed me going ga-ga over it in the staffroom.
I’ll try to get a print of it. Look, there is all the brushwork sensitivity of Hiroshige, the efficiency, the speed. It’s like reading beautiful handwriting- here is a man at the top of his form, with all the confidence of a lifetime’s experience. Some envy here.
Rambrandt van Rijn, in the British Museum, London. Approx A4 in size. 1655.
It’s instinct, isn’t it? His soul paints without the brain interfering. Envy indeed.
